Our Story

We often meet kids who say things like, "I wish these thoughts would go away" or "I've tried everything to stop them”.

These kids are really struggling. They feel upset and confused, and they don't know why. It's not just thoughts bothering them; it's also feelings and urges they don't want.

They've found ways to cope, like doing certain things or following routines, but it's making life hard for them in the long run.

We get how tough this is for the kids and their families, and that's why we're here. Xavier, who runs the place, saw that Adelaide needed a special service for kids with OCD (aged 6 to 25), so he started Pink Elephant Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Our Name

We got our name from something called the Pink Elephant Phenomenon. It's like when you try really, really hard to forget about something you don't want to think about, but the more you try, the more it sticks in your mind.

So, it's kind of like trying to push away or delete thoughts, feelings, or urges that bother you, but they keep coming back no matter what you do. For example:

If you were told “for the next 30 seconds, whatever you do, DO NOT think about a pink elephant, Seriously! Whatever you do, DO NOT think of a pink elephant, STOP thinking of a pink elephant!”

What are you thinking of?
